My wife and I want to thank you for all your expertise and guidance during our 27 day trek from Shivalaya to summiting Island Peak and all the places in-between.  Your help, assistance, knowledge and warm friendliness were invaluable.  I must also mention that your concern for our safety and well being all during the trek was most welcome.

Your organization of all the required flights, permits, porters, camping & climbing equipment, and hiring of a jeep on short notice when flights to Lukla were cancelled, were all flawless.

We are an older couple from the U.S.A., 71 for me and my wife is 60.  Your unhurried pace: “slowly”, “slowly”, as Ang was always saying, was much appreciated.  We never felt pushed or hurried, and we were able to adjust to the altitude with no problems.  And we made our next place to stay usually within a half hour of the “book time”, even with our bad knees!

We were trekking in peak season, and sending one of the porters ahead each day to secure our preferred lodging at the next stop was very nice.  It took the worry off of us about finding a good lodge to spend the night.  And getting extra blankets for us at each lodge to make sure we were warm and cozy every night was very thoughtful. Your knowledge of the varying quality of the many different lodges, and their food, in each village was invaluable.  I can only guess at what kind of experience we may have had if we had to find our own lodges and food.

Another nice touch was Ang and Pasang delivering our meals from the lodge’s kitchen to our table with big warm smiles at the appointed time.

My summiting of Island Peak (6189 m, 20,305 ft) would not have been possible without Ang’s encouragement, coaching and literally “teaching me the ropes” of mountaineering.

We faced many challenges during the 27 days of our trek; from cancelled flights to Lukla, rain storms, our age, our bad knees, altitude adjustment, and my wife becoming ill. You had the experience and knowledge to handle each situation.

We highly recommend your company, Pathivara Mountaineering Club Family and your expertise.  Thank you for making our trek one of the highlights of our life!  You are a great father and son team!

Your friends forever,

I met Ang Thile at Gorak Shep, one of the last outposts before Everest Base Camp.  Ang was preparing to guide two young Danish climbers on Lobuche East.  I was immediately struck by his warmth and calm.  We discussed climbing together in the coming weeks and when we met up in Kathmandu, that is exactly what we did.
Ang organised supplies and porters and permits and off we headed to trek the Annapurna circuit and climb a peak called Chulu East, a good beginners peak.  During that trip I was impressed with Ang's discipline, his intelligence and kindness.
Three years later I asked Ang Thile if he would be happy to climb with me again but this time in the Langtang region.  Despite being in great demand Ang agreed and this time we took his son Pasang with us too.  Ready to set off for the summit of Naya Kanga in the very early hours, this fine young man warmed us with tea.  High camp was at an altitude of around 5,300m.  It took Pasang a good while to make us our tea in the thin air.
We chose to carry a rope but eventually soloed Naya Kanga, summiting in the warm sunshine at 1pm.  This was a huge achievement for me.  I have always been so very happy that I managed the summit with a mountain guide for whom I have great respect and feel very safe with.  This was also the first time Pasang had seen his father, a life-long guide, at work.  Pasang was clearly very proud.

If you are looking for a guide who will become your friend, who knows the country intimately, even which tea-houses have barking dogs, then talk to Ang Thile about what you wish to achieve.
